For centuries, the Ganges River has served as a bathtub, a swimming pool, a garbage receptacle, a highway for floating pyres and a washing machine. After a good soak, wash and rinse in the murky waters, the steps leading further up the ghats serve as a cheap albeit dirty clothes dryer.
